Categories of Manpower A.Security personnel:
For over 175 years the mountain tribes of Nepal have been recruited for overseas military and police service with foreign governments. These men have collectively become known as Gurkhas. Today, in excess of 45000 men serve overseas for the governments of Britain, India and Singapore. The Nepal police and army have some 60000 serving personnel. All will serve for a minimum of 10 years and up to a maximum of 25 years. On completion of service, this highly skilled and trained source of manpower return to their towns and villages. Many however will seek opportunities to continue service overseas with foreign security companies.
Countries and regions employing the services of these Gurkhas include Brunei, Britain, Afghanistan, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Many find employment aboard cruise and container ships.
